Our flexible payment and lease terms allow you to make changes quickly when you need to store your car. We also offer extended gate hours.

    San Diego Vehicle Storage FAQ

Can you keep a car in a storage unit?

Yes, you certainly can! Cars may be stored in drive-up storage units, which are similar to garages. Anything from a small car to a heavy-duty pickup truck or commercial freight van can be stored in the various unit sizes available at all Ace Self Storage locations.

What size storage unit fits a car?

The following are the most common car storage unit sizes:
10×15: A few smaller cars (compacts and motorcycles)
10×20: Sedans, SUVs, buses, pickup trucks, and other vehicles
10×25: Pickup trucks and cargo vans

How long can you store your car?

How long can a car stay in storage? In general, you are free to keep your car in storage for as long as you need it. You won’t need to do much prep work ahead of time if you’re just storing it for a week or two. For longer stretches, you should consider garage parking for your vehicle such as our storage units at any Ace Self Storage location.

How do I prepare my car for storage?

Since damp air may cause rusting, choose a clean, dry garage or storage facility. Store your car in a climate-controlled facility if possible.

Fill the gas tank to the top. When a gas tank is empty or low, condensation and moisture build up within the tank, causing internal corrosion. Add a fuel stabilizer or corrosion inhibitor, then push the car around for a few minutes to apply the additive to the engine parts.

Replace the oil in your engine. To prevent rusting and corrosion, apply lubricant to all exposed metal surfaces in the engine compartment.

If you’re unsure about storing your car, contact us today and we’ll help you get started!
